3D Construction App
UX/UI Case Study
The aim of this project was to redesign the company's main app at the time which was a 3D model viewer. The app allows the user to view the building they are constructing with accuracy in the 3D model. This was my first project that I did for the company when I started back in 2017. The app had a further redesign in 2020 as the app went mobile. I will discuss both redesigns in this case study.

The challenge:
This was quite complex and took roughly two-three weeks to learn. This was my first design job and looking back now there are a few things I would do differently if I could do it again.

Role:
My role was to conduct some research on the best practices for this kind of app and to create a high-fidelity prototype in the 3D model software.
2017 Design:
The first design I did was based on a few design inspirations that I got from mobile games that had side menus. Overall the design worked well and the stakeholders and owner of the company were delighted with the complete design. In 2020 the app was made mobile and this type of menu wouldn't have worked as the menu took up most of the mobile screen so a redesign was announced.

Design Process for the 2020 Redesign
Research:
For the new mobile design, I created a competitive analysis of our competitors that have similar apps and found what they did good and what they did bad. Most competitors opted for a menu bar that would stay closed when the user was not interacting with it. I also found that most companies opted for a light menu as opposed to a dark one.

Ideate:
To come up with some different ideas, I used the Crazy Eight method. This method helped me to gather different ideas to help find the best design solutions to the problem. I began sketching different ideas and designs and presenting them to stakeholders and developers. After much iteration and consideration a final design was proposed and I began creating the high-fidelity wireframes for the developers.

2020 Design:
After iterating Looking back there are a lot of things that I would’ve liked to have done differently.
Ideally user testing should have been done before the redesign to test the old system and then the new system should have been tested too to make sure that I didn’t make the system harder to use. The stakeholders and users we delighted with the improvements made to the app both in 2017 and 2020.
