Website Redesign

UI Case Study

The aim of this project was to redesign the company's website in a completely different style. The stakeholders were interested in changing the design as they wanted to stand out from their competitors.

The challenge:

This website redesign needed to be done fast as the design needed to be shown to major stakeholders at the end of the two weeks. This project was focused on the UI/visual Design and not on the UX design.

Role:

My role was to research competitors sites, create mid-fidelity mockups and create a high-fidelity prototype.

UI Design Process

Research:

I got a list of competitors from the marketing team and started analysing the pro's and con's of each competitors websites. These competitor's ranged from large companies to smaller companies.

In summary, all the websites were great at highlighting their strengths and focused on users getting in contact to request a demo of their apps and platforms. They all used live images of construction sites and some graphics to highlight their selling points. However they all seemed to blend in together with similar images and colour schemes. The stakeholders wanted a design that users would remember and that would stand out from the crowd.

Ideate:

To come up with some different ideas, I used the Crazy Eight method. This method helped me to gather different ideas to help find the best design solutions to the problem. I came up with two strong ideas and quickly mocked  up teo mid-fidelity designs in Adobe Photoshop and showed them to the stakeholders.

The stakeholders had some design changes and wanted to add a scrolling phone that would change when the user scrolled to show them different features of the app.

Prototype & Conclusion:

After creating graphics for the website, I started coding it in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I wanted the main focus of the landing page to be the CTA button to book a demo. This took about a week to complete and was ready for the stakeholders to view at the end of the week. This project turned into more of a concept for the website with the stakeholder going in another direction with the design.

In conclusion it would have be preferable to have user testing done prior to the redesign and with the prototype to adapt and validate any and all design changes that were made. If the design had have gotten the green light, it also would have been benefital to do a open card sort with users to improve the information architecture of the site.
